Two fall prey to virus; 89 test positive in district

Two persons succumbed to coronavirus, while 89 tested positive for it in the district today.

The total number of positive cases has now gone up to 23,942 and the death toll in the district has risen to 934.

There are 717 active cases in the district, while 2,581 are active home quarantine. Today, 229 persons were sent for home quarantine.

Those who lost their lives today were two men aged 65 and 62. They belonged to Bhagat Singh Nagar and Lakkar Bazar, respectively.

Out of the total persons who tested positive today, 37 were referred from the OPDs, 33 were from flu corners, eight were contacts of positive persons, one was a health care worker, while the tracing of 10 was on.

Dr Rajesh Bagga, Civil Surgeon, said whenever the district administration and the Health Department find out any positive or suspected Covid person, their samples are immediately sent for testing.

Samples numbering 2,497 of suspected patients were sent for testing today and their results were expected shortly. He appealed to the residents to follow all directions of the Punjab Government and if they stayed indoors, they would not only stay safe themselves but also contribute to keeping everyone around safe.
