Two Baddi policemen, including a DSP, continue to evade arrest even 10 days after a Nalagarh court issued non-bailable warrants against them. The state CID probing into the case would soon initiate proceedings to declare them proclaimed offenders, if they continue to evade arrest.

The duo is accused of torturing a Uttarakhand-based couple using the third degree method during remand, causing a serious injury in an ear of the man. The case registered at Nalagarh against them and four other policemen was later transferred to the state CID.

DIG (CID) DK Chawdhary said that DSP Lakhbeer and constable Sunil continued to evade arrest even after non-bailable warrants were issued against them on October 14. Sunil was suspended and Lakhbeer’s salary was stopped.

CID teams had raided their native places at Kolar, Paonta Sahib and Nalagarh after obtaining the warrants but the duo continued to be evade arrest. The CID officials said that they were using proxy communication methods to contact their families and seemed to be hiding outside Himachal.

The duo was among six policemen, including a former SHO, a Sub Inspector and an Assistant Sub Inspector, whom the Nalagarh police had booked for causing grievous hurt to the couple to extort a confession, assault on the woman with the intent to outrage her modesty, insulting the woman and criminal intimidation on a complaint filed by her husband; the couple is accused of cheating and forgery.

The High Court of Himachal Pradesh had rejected the anticipatory bail applications of all six policemen in August. A case was registered against them at Nalagarh police station on December 27, 2023, on the basis of a medical report and the orders of a Nalagarh court.

The CID had earlier arrested ASI Kalyan, Sub-Inspector Ashok Rana, former Nalagarh SHO Kuldeep Sharma and Head Constable Chanderkiran in September. Kuldeep Sharma and Chanderkiran had approached the Supreme Court for anticipatory bail but did not get any relief. Kalyan and Rana did not approach the apex court.
