Two cadets from Mohali institute selected to become IAF officers
Two cadets, Charanpreet Kaur and Mahak, from Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls (AFPI) in Mohali, have been selected to become officers in the Indian Air Force. They will be joining the Air Force Academy, Dundigal, for pre-commission training in January 2025.
Charanpreet Kaur hails from Kurali in Mohali and is the daughter of Harminder Singh Banwait, who serves as a driver in a private company. Among 192 women candidates on the merit list, she secured an All India Rank of four.
Mahak, daughter of Anil Kumar Dahiya, who is a government teacher, belongs to Mohali. She was placed 23rd in the merit list.
Congratulating the two cadets, Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora said that their success would undoubtedly inspire other girls from Punjab to pursue opportunities in serving the nation as commissioned officers in the defence services.
AFPI Director Maj Gen Jasbir Singh Sandhu (retd) said that efforts are being made to enable more girls to join the armed forces. The AFPI was established to prepare girls to join the defence forces as officers after graduation.
With the National Defence Academy (NDA) opening up its doors to girl cadets after 10+2, a new wing has been added to train girls for its entrance exam. Four cadets of AFPI have already cleared the NDA entrance exam and are now preparing for interview by the Service Selection Board.
The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
