Two Bangladeshis staying illegally in Delhi arrested
The Delhi Police have arrested two illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who were residing in the South East District area, police officials said on Friday. The two arrested persons were identified as Abdul Ahad (22) and Md Azizul (32). Police said they were residents of Sylhet and Dhaka respectively.
DCP (South East) Ravi Kumar said Ahad had entered India on December 6 and had been working as a labourer. “Azizul arrived in 2004 through Benapole border in Bangladesh and arrived at North 24 Paragana in West Bengal. He has been living in India since then,” the DCP said.
The DCP further said that this year 916 persons were verified of which eight illegal immigrants including six Bangladesh nationals were detained in the South East district. “Efforts are on to identify more illegal immigrants staying in the capital.” he added.
Kumar also said that during the drive the teams have noticed that the landlords are not aware about the mandatory provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1946.
He also informed the landlords that under the Foreigners Act, 1946 read with Foreigners (Amendment) Order, 2016 The landlords are required to submit information about the foreign national to the Foreigners Registration Office (FRRO) on ‘Form C’ within twenty four hours of the foreign nationals arrival.
“Along with this, the landlord is also required to maintain a register of foreign tenants on ‘Form B’ as prescribed under the Foreigners (Amendment) Order, 2016. The landlord should also submit the information to the local police for verification. In this regard, orders under 144 of CrPC. (now Sec 163 BNSS) are issued from time to time. Non-compliance of this provision may attract prosecution under Section 223 of BNS for disobedience of order duly promulgated by public servant under Section 163 of BNSS,” he added.
The Delhi Police officials at the Indira Gandhi International Airport said 23 fake agents (facilitators) were arrested this year who were allegedly accused of a fake passport scam which included one Bangladeshi national, however, out of 19 foreign nationals arrested 12 were from neighbouring countries. Police said that among the 19 foreign nationals living in India, 12 included Bangladesh nationals, three Myanmarese and Nepalese nationals and one Afghanistan national.
While among the 23 agents arrested, one was a Bangladeshi and Myanmar national, nine were from West Bengal, four from Delhi, three from Maharashtra and one each from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Odisha, Rajasthan.
“These criminal networks, often involving foreign nationals from neighbouring countries, exploit India’s porous borders to enter the country illegally and fraudulently acquire Indian passports using forged documents.” DCP (IGI), Usha Rangnani said.
“Indian passports hold global credibility, and any misuse undermines the trust placed in the country’s identity systems. Fraudulent passports enable unauthorized travel, leading to exploitation of immigration systems worldwide,” the DCP added.
