Two ASIs suspended for beating up artiste in Tarn Taran
Two ASIs Gurbhej Singh and Sukhwinder Singh, posted at the Sri Goindwal Sahib police station, who thrashed a Punjabi artiste at his native village Dinewal here on Tuesday, have been suspended with immediate effect and shifted to the Police Lines.
The artiste, Dharampreet Singh, alias Mukh Mantri, who belongs to a very poor family, has been seen performing during cultural programmes on local and national-level TV channels along with many other well-known artistes like Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi and others.
A video of the incident went viral on social media. SP (Investigation) Ajayraj Singh said certain residents of Dinewal village had lodged a complaint on police helpline No.112 against throwing of stones at their houses by Dharampreet. The SP said the two accused had gone to the spot when Dharampreet Singh removed the turban of one of the police personnel.
The SP said the video showed one side of the incident and the act of Dharampreet Singh was missing from the video.
Dharampreet on the contrary said he had gone to the village to fetch milk from a dairy when on the way, some dogs barked at him and he just to save himself took out a sword from his home. The owners of the dogs called the police to the spot and police personnel beat up Dharampreet severely.
