The Delhi Police have arrested two persons with 104 kg of banned firecrackers, officials said on Tuesday. One of them was transporting 10.3 kg firecrackers concealed under food items on a motorcycle in Sultan Puri.

Beat patrol staff member, Constable Bhooray Khan, who was on duty in the area on Sunday, received a tip-off in this regard.

The Delhi Government has banned the bursting, sale and purchase till January 1.

A strategic checkpoint was set up on Budh Bazar Road near Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in Sultan Puri, from where the accused, identified as Mohd Aakib (24), was arrested.

“Upon inspection of a white plastic bag, the police found food items like rusk and mathi, under which 10.3 kg of banned firecrackers were concealed,” the DCP added.

Aakib told the police that he had procured the crackers from a warehouse owned by Talib Yusuf (46), residing in Aman Vihar, Rohini. The police raided the warehouse and arrested Talib. It seized 93.9 kg of firecrackers were from the warehouse.
