Truck driver’s half-burnt body found near Sirhind
Fatehgarh Sahib, April 29
The Sirhind police recovered a half burnt body from bushes on side of the GT Road, near Sirhind, yesterday. The murderer after committing the crime tried to destroy evidence by burning the body, said the Sirhind police station SHO, GS Sikand.
After consistent efforts the body was identified as that of a truck driver Om Pal, a resident of Chandpur Roorkee village in Nawanshahr district, the SHO added.
The victim was working with DS Transport Company in Ludhiana, the SHO said. On Tuesday, the victim loaded truck with iron goods and was on his way to deliver the consignment in Faridabad, but his body was recovered on Wednesday morning from bushes near Sirhind, the SHO added. The loaded truck was untraceable, the SHO said.
“The police are investigating the matter from various angels and hope to crack the murder soon. Efforts are on to trace the loaded truck. It appears that either someone committed the crime with the intention to loot the truck or there might be someone accompanying the victim,” the SHO added.
The murderer burnt the body to destroy evidence and mislead the police, but it was only half burnt, the SHO said. After postmortem the body was handed over to family members of the victim, the SHO added.
Dharmpal, victim’s elder brother, said his brother was working with DS Transport Company in Ludhiana for a long time. As usual, he took the truck to deliver consignment, but was murdered on the way, Dharmpal added. — OC
