As the Indian batters inflicted carnage on Bangladesh bowlers to win the second Test in Kanpur, Akash Deep too joined in on the fun as he hammered back-to-back sixes off Shakib Al Hasan, courtesy: bat gifted by Virat Kohli.

The Indian dressing room was seen thrilled following the two massive sixes with skipper Rohit Sharma smiling. Kohli also showed uncontrollable emotions as he smiled that soon converted into laughter.

Recently, Akash revealed his banter with Kohli to secure his much-prized bat. As per media reports, Akash revealed how the India premium batter himself gifted his bat to him after the first Test in Chennai.

“Yes, it was tough. But I don't know what happened to bhaiya, he suddenly came and said 'Le, tujhe bat chahiye tha na, le khel'. So it got easy,” reports said, quoting Akash Deep in an interaction with Jio Cinema.

After holding the bat, the Indian pacer told Kohli that he was getting the cover drive feel from it. “He said don't do drama, just take it. I asked him if he would take the bat back, he said no,” Akash added.

The star batter also gifted one of his signed bats to the soon-to-be retired Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan after the home side completed a 2-0 Test series sweep over the visitors on Tuesday.

Kohli’s knack of gifting bats to players came to light earlier this year during the IPL 2024 when India and Kolkata Knight Riders batter Rinku Singh first asked for it.
