Amid Agnipath row, boxer Vijender Singh wants MLAs, MPs to be appointed for 2 years, no pension and be named 'sadanveers'
Chandigarh, June 17
Amid violent protests in several states against “Agnipath”, Olympics medallist and boxer Vijender Singh–in a series of tweets–attacked the government over the new military enrolment model.
Disturbing pictures and videos from across the country show compartments of trains being set on fire as protesters go on a rampage.
The Opposition has urged the Centre to roll back the “Agnipath” scheme, alleging that the Central government’s primary objective in launching it was to reduce the expenses of the nation’s defence forces with regards to retirement benefits and pensions.
Vijender also posted a picture of a young man from Haryana who allegedly committed suicide after the launch of the Agnipath scheme.

Vijender sent another tweet, in which he called for retirement of MLAs and MPs after two years of service.
MLA, MP को 2 साल के लिए नियुक्त किया जाए उसके बाद रिटायरमेंट दी जाए । पेंशन भी बन्द की जाए। इन मंत्रियों को ‘सदनवीर’ कहा जाए 🇮🇳

He also called for a ban on their pensions after two years. Taking a dig at the government, Vijender said, “these ministers should be called sadanveers”.
The government has, however, justified the Agnipath scheme stating that it would create a large pool of skilled youth who could contribute to India’s overall defence preparedness as well as the growth of the economy.
