The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has generated a revenue of over Rs 56 lakh by plying special buses during the Manimahesh Yatra.

Since the Covid pandemic, this is the first time the corporation has seen significant earnings during the yatra, said Chamba HRTC Regional Manager Shugal Singh.

Despite a shortage of buses, Chamba HRTC depot made best efforts to facilitate the pilgrims by plying special buses. Some buses were also borrowed from other depots.

During the starting days of the yatra, the HRTC earned a revenue of Rs 20 lakh as a huge rush was witnessed for the ‘first royal bath’.

Manimahesh Yatra was organised from August 26 to September 11 during which the HRTC deployed around 40 buses from the Chamba depot for the convenience of pilgrims.

If the demand exceeds the local capacity, the HRTC requests buses from other depots, which boosts the corporation’s earnings. This year, around 10 buses were brought in from external depots, while the rest were managed by the Chamba depot itself.

The HRTC generated over Rs 56 lakh in revenue from the yatra. In recent years, the corporation had seen lower income, but this year marked a boost as it was the first time since the pandemic that such earnings were achieved
