Tragic fire claims lives of several animals in Abohar village
A devastating fire broke out on Thursday in an animal enclosure in Dhani Kadaka Singh village, located on the outskirts of Abohar, resulting in the tragic death of several animals. Among the victims were seven goats, a buffalo and its newborn calf, all of which were burnt alive.
The incident occurred at the home of Mangal Singh, a former member of the village panchayat. Mangal Singh said most of his family members had gone to a wedding, leaving only him and his wife at home. To light up the enclosure, he had installed a bulb, with its wire running overhead. Suddenly, a fire erupted in the enclosure, which quickly spread and became uncontrollable. Tragically, all the animals perished in the blaze.
Despite the chaos, Mangal Singh attempted to save the newborn calf, which was still alive but severely burnt. In the process, he sustained burns to his hands and mouth. Although badly hurt, he managed to rescue the calf, which was in a half-dead state.
As the animals cried out in pain, Mangal Singh’s brother, Gurnam Singh, arrived at the scene. He recounted while Mangal Singh was trying to rescue the calf, he sustained more burn injuries and lost consciousness. Had Gurnam Singh not intervened, Mangal Singh would have likely succumbed to the fire in the collapsing structure.
The village sarpanch, Sukhwinder Singh Babbu, former panch Pritam Singh and other villagers soon arrived at the site to assist. They helped clear the debris and remove the bodies of the dead animals.
