A tender has been issued to this end, and installation will begin shortly after the work is assigned to the successful contractor or agency. The MCYJ estimates the project’s cost at Rs 47.04 lakh.

According to sources, traffic lights are to be installed at the chowks of Vishwakarma, Traffic Park, Kanhaiya Sahib, Panchayat Bhawan and Gulab Nagar in the twin cities.

Rajesh Sharma, MCYJ SDO, said, “The MCYJ has decided to install traffic signals at five locations in Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. The tender is currently being processed, and installation work will begin as the work is assigned to a contractor or agency.”

The project would provide significant relief to commuters from traffic snarls and will help reduce the number of road accidents in the affected areas, he added.

Anil Kumar, a social worker and resident of Professor Colony in Yamunanagar, said traffic control signals should be installed at the identified locations as soon as possible to prevent accidents.

The matter has been discussed at district road safety committee meeting from time to time.

“On some chowks, no traffic police personnel are present, or the traffic control signals are non-functional. In such cases, traffic jams and accidents are possible. Therefore, traffic lights should be installed at these sites on a priority basis,” said Himanshu, a Jagadhri resident.
