Tourism dept to develop sites associated with Mahabharata era across region

The Haryana Tourism Department is planning to develop sites associated with the Mahabharata era across the region to attract more pilgrims and tourists.

Tourism Minister Dr Arvind Sharma, while chairing Mahabharata Circuit conference at the Karna Lake on Monday night, highlighted the state’s efforts to develop Kurukshetra.

The initiative, part of the Mahabharata Circuit project, aims to showcase the region’s rich historical heritage and spiritual significance.

“Like Vrindavan, Kurukshetra also witnesses huge arrival of pilgrims and tourists, so there is a need to enhance the beauty of Kurukshetra and nearby districts. Karnal and the historic Kala Amb site in Panipat should be added in the Mahabharata Circuit to further enrich the visitor experience,” said Sharma.

RK Suman, Regional Director (North), Ministry of Tourism, highlighted the mission to place Kurukshetra on the global tourism map.

He said the second Mahabharata Circuit Conference and a Familiarization (FAM) Tour for tourism stakeholders and service providers has been organised in Karnal for inviting approximately 100 participants from across the country to experience Kurukshetra’s unique offerings.
