Mumbai, February 14
Justice Satyaranjan Dharmadhikari, senior-most judge of the Bombay High Court after Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog, today announced his resignation from the judiciary after his transfer as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
Justice Dharmadhikari made the announcement in the court when an advocate, Mathew Nedumpara, mentioned a matter for hearing. The judge refused saying he has quit the post. “I have demitted office. Today is my last day,” Dharmadhikari told the advocate.
The judge later told reporters that he did not want to leave Mumbai. “I had to resign due to purely personal and family issues. I did not want to leave Mumbai and they were not ready to elevate me as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court,” Justice Dharmadhikari told reporters.
Justice Dharmadhikari had two more years of service left. He was elevated as a judge of the Bombay High Court in 2003. Born in a family of lawyers, Justice Dharmadhikari started legal practice in 1983. His father Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari was an Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
