To woo Barnala voters, candidates bank on door-to-door canvassing
Instead of organising big rallies in the Barnala bypoll, candidates of all political parties have resorted to door-to-door canvassing and “nukkad” meetings to seek votes.
Other than the candidates, their family members and supporters have been visiting several parts of the Assembly segment to win over the electorate.
The campaign of Congress candidate Kuldeep Singh Dhillon is being run by former education minister and in charge of Barnala byelection Vijay Inder Singla. Besides Singla, Dhillon’s wife, son and daughter are actively canvassing and holding “nukkad” meetings.
The Congress candidate and Singla today did door-to-door campaigning at Sadar Bazaar, Handhiaya Bazaar and Pharwahi Bazaar in Barnala and at several villages.
AAP candidate Harinder Singh Dhaliwal and Sangrur Lok Sabha MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer are also relying on one-on-one meetings with the voters. Besides Dhaliwal and Hayer, AAP supporters have taken the campaign in their own hands. Hayer is canvassing with full might as his reputation is at stake in the bypoll.
AAP rebel and Independent candidate Gurdeep Singh Batth, who was denied the party ticket, is campaigning aggressively in the segment. He along with his supporters covered several markets of Barnala, asking the people to teach a lesson to AAP. Batth’s mother and son are also campaigning for him.
BJP candidate Kewal Singh Dhillon along with his two sons and wife has held several round of meetings with the voters in Barnala city and villages. Dhillon said his door-to-door campaign had got an overwhelming response. He has covered all three main bazaars of Barnala, besides Dhanaula and Handhiaya.
SAD (A) candidate Govind Singh Sandhu is also going door to door in the constituency. His mother, maternal uncle Imaan Singh Mann and grandfather Simranjit Singh Mann have been campaigning and holding “nukkad” meetings with the traders in Barnala.
