In a landmark feat, a 75-year-old veteran of the Indian Army, Brigadier Kuldip Singh Gulia, walked 1,25,000 steps, approximately 114 KM on Saturday to commemorate the Infantry Day-2024. He embarked on this journey with an aim to walk sawa lakh kadam at Jaipur in the true spirit of Sikh Regiment under the theme ‘Sawa lakh se ek ladau’.

He started his journey at midnight, along with troops of Sikh Regiment and civil enthusiasts, who walked along with him at various locations. He started from his home in Mahadev Nagar, then proceeded to pay homage in a traditional manner at Sikh Regiment gurdwara, where he paid homage and salutation to the bravehearts at Prerna Sthal, War Memorial of South Western Command.

A special mention goes out for Sher Singh, a renowned ultra-marathon athlete. Fitness walkers include Shakti, Pooja, Rajnish and soldiers of the Sikh Regiment, who accompanied Brig Gulia in his endeavour to give spread the message of ‘Fit India’ to the youth and all countrymen.

Brig Gulia, who turned 76 on October 28, dedicates his walk and life journey to Bharat Mata, Sikh Regiment and all Infantry soldiers. Brig Gulia inspired citizens to join him in honouring the unparalleled courage and sacrifice of Indian Army and Infantry soldiers.

Brig Gulia commanded 4 Sikh, an Infantry Brigade at Gandhi Nagar and was the Deputy GOC of Mountain Division in Bareilly. He has explored almost all ridges and forts around Jaipur and Sariska, trekked across all Indian Himalayan states while trekking over 60-70 km in a single day on numerous occasions after turning 70.

He has written books, including ‘Human Ecology of Sikkim’, ‘Genesis of Disasters’ and contributed towards 15 volumes of ‘An Encyclopaedia of Himalayan Studies’ and five volumes of ‘Encyclopaedia of Human Ecology’.
