To check water wastage, underground pipe leakage detector to be put to use in Shimla
Shimla, February 17
In a bid to solve the leakages in the underground water pipelines across town, the Municipal Corporation (Shimla) is set to use a high-tech underground water leakage detector that could help in identifying the exact spot of leakage, reducing water wastage.
The MC on Friday conducted trials of the machine at the Mall Road and in Chotta Shimla. The Delhi-based supplier of the detectors gave demonstrations of the machine to MC officials. The machine is equipped to pinpoint to the spots where the intensity of leakage is the most.
Mayor Surinder Chauhan said leakages in underground water pipelines has been a big problem in the district and there needs to be a check on faulty pipelines. If the trial proves to be successful, the MC would procure the machines, according to Chauhan. “With the help of this machine, leakage spots can be identified and the pipeline can be immediately repaired. This will help in effectively dealing with the leakage in water pipelines and will also help in reducing the cost that is spent on digging to ascertain the exact place of leakage,” the Mayor said.
He said the MC was very serious about providing round-the-clock water supple to the people, adding that a 150-year-old British-era water tank in Seog area was being restored to ensure that there is no shortage of water in the town, especially during the summer.
