Three-tier security for EVMs at five strongrooms in Karnal
After the completion of the elections process in five Assembly segments of Karnal district, electronic voting machines (EVMs) have been securely kept in strongrooms under high security. Three-tier security arrangements have been made for the safety of the EVMs at strongrooms. The counting of votes will be held on October 8.
“A three-tier security system has been deployed in the strongrooms to ensure safety of the EVMs,” said Uttam Singh, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer.
The strongrooms, which are located in Karnal city, are under round-the-clock surveillance. The three layers of security include personnel from the Haryana Police and central security forces, with access to the strongrooms strictly restricted.
“We have made comprehensive arrangements to safeguard the EVMs. Security is our top priority. No person can enter the strong rooms,” said Uttam Singh. Besides physical security, CCTV cameras have been installed inside each strongroom. Live footage is being streamed on screens placed outside the strongroom. Candidates and their agents can monitor the security of the EVMs without entering the strongrooms,” he said.
“The CCTV cameras ensure transparency in the voting process. Candidates can remain informed and be assured of the safety of their votes,” Uttam Singh said. “The EVMs from the five Assembly segments of the district — Karnal, Assandh, Gharaunda, Indri and Nilokheri — are stored in separate strongrooms, each guarded by tight security,” he said.
“The EVMs of Karnal Assembly segment have been kept at DAV Senior Secondary School, while of Gharaunda at DAV PG College, of Indri at SD Senior Secondary School, of Nilokheri and Assandh segments at SD Model School, Karnal,” Uttam Singh added. “The district administration has made all necessary arrangements for counting of votes,” he said.
