Three panchayats of Majra, Purruwala and Gorkhuwala have been declared containment zones in Paonta Sahib of Sirmaur district as the maximum Covid cases have come from here in the last two days.
They are the primary contacts of the Power Minister and local MLA Sukhram Chaudhary, who, along with his family and personal security officer, had tested positive. As many as 31 cases have come in two days.
The local Beopar Mandal has demanded lockdown in the town as well as the rural areas for a few days. A few people are seen on the roads.
District Magistrate, Sirmaur, Dr RK Pruthi, said since there was a sporadic occurrence of the infection, small containment zones would be notified and there was no rationale in closing the area. Wards no. 2 and 3 in Paonta Sahib were the containment zones in Paonta Sahib.
He said contact tracing was under way by the health and police staff at Paonta Sahib, Shillai and other places. Officials said only a few people had turned up to get themselves tested.
Demanding action against the Power Minister, former Congress MLA Kirnesh Jung gave a complaint to the police. He said wearing masks and maintaining social distance was mandatory but all norms were thrown to the winds when the minister was welcomed at various places in the district from July 31 to August 3.
