Three new courses to commence at PEC, Chandigarh

The Senate of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) today approved introduction of three new courses from the next academic year. The new undergraduate programme – B.Tech in mathematics and computing – was proposed by the Department of Mathematics.
The four-year programme will be initiated in full-time mode from the coming academic years of 2024-25. This course will cover a range of topics from the fields of mathematics and computer science including mathematical modelling, computational algorithms, data structures and programming languages.
In addition, the new undergraduate Curriculum Scheme of Minor Degree Programme (with 18 credits) under the provisions of New Education Policy (NEP 2020) has also been approved by the senate.
“All the provisions were mapped out in the meeting. This curriculum would promote research & innovation, flexible undergraduate programmes, Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), incorporation of vocational education and internships into the curriculum as well,” said a member.
On the same guidelines, the curriculum of undergraduate program of B.Design was approved by the senate meeting headed by its chairman Prof Baldev Setia.
A postgraduate level programme — Master’s in Business and Data Analytics — will also be launched from the academic year of 2024-25. This will be a two-year programme, enabling graduates to exhibit skills of analytics and critical thinking and business acumen.
