Three Kurukshetra travel agents booked for cheating

Accused of submitting applications of tourist visa instead of work permit

Kurukshetra, July 7

The police here have booked three travel agents for allegedly duping two Pehowa residents. The travel agents are accused of submitting their applications for tourist visa instead of work permit. The accused were identified as Surjeet, Neha, and Gurnam, all residents of Kurukshetra.

In her complaint to the police, Malkit Kaur of Pehowa said her friend and she wanted to go to Armenia.

“When we contacted the travel agents, they told us that they would charge Rs 6.45 lakh to send us to Armenia. They took Rs 60,000 in advance, along with the passports and other documents, from us. An amount of Rs 2 lakh was given to them after getting the visas. We paid them the same amount after getting our tickets. The remaining amount was to be paid after reaching Armenia. We were scheduled to board a flight on November 6, 2023, but when we reached the Delhi airport, we were told that the tickets were fake,” she said.

According to the complainant, when they talked to the agents, they made excuses and handed over another ticket after a few days. She said the agents again gave them wrong tickets.

“When we told them to return our money, the agents started making excuses and offered to send us to Macau. They told us that it would cost Rs 12 lakh. We gave them Rs 1.84 lakh and the remaining amount was to be paid after reaching Macau. The agents told us that they had given our documents to a company for employment and they would inform us after getting the approval. However, even a month after reaching there, the agents failed to provide us with jobs,” she said.

The police said the victims came back to India as their visas got expired and the agents refused to return the money. A case of cheating and under Sections of the Immigration Act was registered against the accused at the Pehowa police station.
