Three-day GNDU A-Zone Youth Festival kicks off

The A-Zone (Amritsar District Colleges) Youth Festival of Guru Nanak Dev University was inaugurated today at the Dasmesh Auditorium of the varsity. The three-day festival started with a costume parade, where students showcased their creativity and cultural heritage through vibrant and imaginative outfits. The participants often represented various themes, ranging from traditional attire to contemporary interpretations, highlighting diversity and artistic expression. Mime competitions were also held, serving as a powerful form of artistic expression, conveying emotions and stories without words.

Prof Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Dean Student’s Welfare, inaugurated the festival as he stressed on holistic educational process that shapes individuals for the future. He said that ethics play a crucial role in this journey, guiding students to make responsible choices and fostering integrity in their academic and personal lives. “Engaging in extracurricular activities enhances this educational experience, promoting teamwork, leadership and social skills,” he added. Dr Amandeep Singh, in-charge, Youth Welfare Department said that competitions in costume parade, mime, mimicry, skit and one-act play were held today in the Dashmesh Auditorium. In the mimicry competition, students displayed their talent by impersonating famous personalities, characters or everyday situations. The participants showcased their vocal skills, comic timing and creativity, often incorporating humour and satire.

In the second venue at Golden Jubilee Convention Centre, competitions in classical instrumental (P), classical instrumental (NP) classical vocal and folk orchestra were organised. Painting on-the-spot, cartooning, collage, clay modeling, and on-the-spot photography were held at the third venue which was the Architecture Department. The competitions in installation and quiz (preliminary and final) were organised in the conference hall.
