Balbir Saini, a progressive farmer from Patola village in Kangra district, has demonstrated that determination can overcome any obstacle. Known for his innovative farming techniques, Balbir carefully plans his crops to ensure maximum profitability. His current broccoli crop, selling for Rs 140 per kg, will soon drop to Rs 40 per kg in just 10 days. By strategically timing his produce, Balbir takes advantage of market demand, establishing a profitable monopoly.

In addition to broccoli, Balbir has cultivated two varieties of marigold flowers, timed perfectly for the upcoming Diwali festival when their demand will peak. Recognising his entrepreneurial skills, the Department of Agriculture has honoured Balbir multiple times. He has also supported fellow farmers interested in pursuing agriculture as a profession, sharing his knowledge and experience.

Rahul Katoch, Deputy Director of Agriculture in Kangra, praised Balbir as a role model for young people, encouraging them to grow high-value cash crops for better returns. The department assisted him in setting up a polyhouse, but Balbir’s forward-thinking nature continues to push him towards new opportunities.

While Kangra was once famous for its fertile fields, the region now faces a crisis as younger generations shift away from agriculture in pursuit of government jobs. Balbir''s success offers a beacon of hope, proving that with innovation and hard work, farming can still thrive in the district.
