The Tribune Principals’ Meet 2024: Integrating technology in school curriculum a challenging task
Patiala, August 28
“Technology Integration in schools: Opportunities and Challenges” was topic that brought heads of schools of Patiala region on one platform at the Principals' Meet-2024 organised by The Tribune Group of Newspapers in partnership with Chitkara University here today.
As many as 50 principals and coordinators from different schools from Patiala and its surrounding areas took part in the event that discussed “Technology Integration in Schools: Opportunities and Challenges”.
Highlighting the fact that in today’s world, everything is data driven, keynote speaker career counsellor Aadi Garg said, “To integrate education with technology, one should know how to manage the data skills with curriculum effectively, thus increasing efficiency and overall productivity. If such skills are adapted in the institutions, children will get an immersive learning experience that will help in the progress of the country.
Sharing his views on the National Education Policy, he said, “Its motto is to encourage, educate and empower. All these three components are a necessity for providing value education.”
In his address, Aadi stressed on the importance of more interaction between teachers and parents. He emphasised that the role of parents was not limited to paying fees only, but also to ensure that their wards get the best of the ‘teacher’ in them, too, when it comes to sharing ideas and thoughts.
“If every school has one teacher who can understand the needs of the students and make them feel comfortable when it comes to studies or any other issue, the students can learn a lot,” he stated.
The principals got a platform to discuss and share their ideas about managing schools. Principals and coordinators actively got involved in various discussions on the New Education Policy and also participated in a discussion on the role and responsibilities of school leaders.
“There are fresh challenges that we face now as the new generation continues to get exposed to a sea of information on social media and the Internet. The real concern is to address these issues and ensure that certain sites and media platforms are banned or that the content is not disturbing for young minds,” said Indu Sharma, Principal, Bhupindra International Public School.
Principal Sonia Sharma, Mukat International School, Rajpura, said new technology needed a regular update.
Several other school coordinators talked about the difficulties they faced and how they applied different yardsticks to ensure a conducive learning atmosphere, not only for the students, but also for the faculty.
“It is commendable on the part of The Tribune Group for taking an initiative to hear out the viewpoint of schools,” they said.
Addressing the gathering, Chitkara University Director Preeti Choudhary gave example of the methodology followed by the university for students to ensure quality academic atmosphere be it inside the library, equipment in labs or the new technology made available to them. “Our education methodology ensures that our students are able to deliver anywhere they are placed, be it within India or abroad. Our university ensures all-round development of the students ensuring 100 per cent placement for them after the completion of their degree,” she said.
