MP Manish Tewari tells GMADA to act against builders indulging in malpractices
Mohali, October 29
Due to deliberate excessive delay in possession and deficiencies in provision of basic amenities, real estate customers suffer not only from mental and financial injury, but also from brazen violation of their right to life and livelihood.
Member of Parliament Manish Tewari stated this during a meeting, held to familiarise with gamut of activities that Greater Mohali Area Development Authroty (GMADA) undertakes, at PUDA Bhawan, Mohali. He was accompanied by Raminder Pal Singh Palli, chairman, Punjab Agri Export Corporation, and Pawan Dewan, chairman, Punjab Large Industrial Development Board.
Advocating exemplary action against erring builders, Tewari asked GMADA officials to take stringent action against builders/developers, who take gullible citizens on a ride.
He suggested hefty penalties, cancelation of licences and criminal action against builders/colonisers indulging in malpractices. He also asked officials to come up with a “Model builder buyer agreement” with an appropriate insertion of a penalty clause.
“Generally agreements are craftily drafted in favour of builders, leaving people in the lurch,” added Tewari.
“Lot of complaints are received against promoters/builders regarding failure to complete projects in the stipulated period, non-provision of basic amenities and deficiency in service, which are major areas of conflict between developers and buyers that need to be redressed,” said Tewari. — TNS
