Back in the day, when Gippy Grewal came up with the series Warning, little did he think there would be a demand for a movie on the same lines. When Warning, the movie was released in 2021, it found a niche audience. As the release of its highly anticipated sequel nears on February 2, the team of Warning 2 gets candid.
Gippy Grewal, the brain behind the story, has played many a role in the universe of Warning. Writing, producing and acting in this film, he chooses his personal favourite. “I know people appreciate me as a romantic hero or in a comic avatar, but, personally, I love action films. I would love to do more such larger-than-life roles, hardcore fights and be loved for it.” As a producer, Gippy had the responsibility of assembling the cast that Warning 2 proudly presents. Finding over 15 other actors for the film couldn’t have been an easy task, “The right cast is 75 per cent of the battle won. But it’s a long process. Some people just came to my mind as I was writing the roles, and then as a team we found the rest of our cast.”
Gippy then mentioned that he had a four-minute role in 2021’s Warning. “A good movie remains true to its story, not merely relying on big stars. Luckily for us, we experience no ego clashes,” he says. This unity and faith in his team also gives Gippy the confidence that Warning 2’ would open to packed auditoriums. He admits, “We are aware that in Punjabi cinema, comedy is a genre that does well. Punjabi action films don’t have much scope here or overseas. Irrespective of that, Warning, a small-budget film, was a hit. With Warning 2, which has been created on a grand scale, naturally our expectations are very high.”
Household name
It is this film that changed the course of life for Prince Kanwaljit Singh, whose character ‘Pamma’ became a household name after the success of Warning. While the entire team is all praise for Prince Kanwaljit, he credits the movie for giving him a chance to showcase his talent. “It is with this film that the actor in me was born in the true sense. I became someone who could carry an entire film on his shoulders.”
A dashing addition to the team of Warning 2 is Rahul Dev, who plays a cop, Ranjit Singh. Happy and emotional, in pure Punjabi, he expresses his love for the state and his co-actors. “Menu bohat pyaar ditta hai Punjab ne te eh saare kalakaran ne.” He goes on in English, “The innocence with which Prince portrays Pamma, how Gippy believes every actor deserves screen time to do justice to their characters and craft at the same time, how the people of Punjab shower so much love and warmth on everyone, I feel such a strong connection and am grateful for the experience.”
Leading lady
While the trailer is loaded with action, Jasmin Bhasin adds a romantic touch to Warning 2 with her character, ‘Raunak,’ revealing that her role holds a surprise element. She says, “I am the raunak of this film and my role is going to leave you surprised.” To be on board for Warning 2 was a ‘blessing’ for Jasmine, who is still in the initial phase of her Punjabi film career with few music videos and a movie before this. “We all wait to be discovered by the right production house or director for years, and I can safely say I got lucky. What can be a better platform to showcase your talent? While people have seen Gippy and me before in Honeymoon, I can say our chemistry in this one will sure touch your hearts.”
