The Department of School Education has postponed the Haryana Teachers Eligibility test (HTET) slated for December 7 and 8 across the state.

The passing of HTET is mandatory for the posts of primary teacher (PRT), Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) and Postgraduate Teacher (PGT) in government schools, hence the test is conducted by the Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH), Bhiwani, for all three levels.

Sources claimed the BSEH authorities had, on Monday, moved a proposal to the Department of School Education, urging it to postpone the test, citing internal reasons. The proposal was accepted today by the state authorities.

“The state government is agreed with your proposal to postpone the HTET to be held on December 7 and 8 till further orders. Further, the approval regarding the dates to hold the HTET may be got approved later on,” states the letter sent to the Secretary, BSEH, from the Additional Chief Secretary, School Education Department, Haryana.

Previously, the HTET was conducted on December 2 and 3 last year and 2,51,831 applications were received.

The development has come as a setback to a large number of candidates. The online process for submission of applications had also been completed.

"The BSEH authorities had also uploaded a list of candidates who had submitted more than one application for a level. Such candidates were also directed to file a clarification," sources said.

Ajay Chopra, Secretary, BSEH, told The Tribune that the test had been postponed due to technical reasons. “The HTET will be conducted as per the next direction of the state government,” he said, refusing to share the reasons for the postponement.
