Teacher gets 5-year jail for molesting girl

A Fast-track Special Court Judge Dr Yashika has sentenced a government school teacher to undergo five-year rigorous imprisonment for allegedly molesting a 12-year-old girl student in a classroom. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.

Rejecting the teacher’s plea for mercy, the court said such kind of offence was not against any individual, but against the entire society, shaking the faith parents of a child repose in a teacher. The police registered the FIR against the accused on November 2, 2022. on the complaint of class VII student.

Out of fear, she left the class immediately and did not tell anyone. After reaching home, the girl narrated the incident to her father who decided to lodge a police complaint

After an investigation, the police filed the charge sheet against the accused for the offences punishable Sections 10 and 12 of the POCSO Act and Section 354-A of IPC. Finding prima facie case, charges were framed against the accused to which he pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

The counsel of the accused argued that the latter has been falsely implicated in the case. On the other hand, the public prosecutor argued that the prosecution has proved the case beyond a shadow of doubt.

After hearing of the argument, the court convicted the accused for charges framed against him. The court has sentenced the accused for five-year RI under Section 10 of POCSO Act, three-year RI under Section 354-A and three-year RI under Section12 of the POCSO Act. All sentences will run concurrently.
