Gandhi Municipal Park in Tarn Taran, situated in the heart of the city, is the only park where the residents can go and walk in enjoyment. It is unfortunate that the park is facing neglect at the hands of authorities. Lack of sanitation, wild growth of grass and proper seating arrangements are all conspicuous. The iron grill installed near the wall of the park is damaged and stray animals often enter, their dung emanating not only a foul smell but spoiling the serene surroundings. There is no drinking water, no toilet in the park. Three years back, a sound system had been installed that would play bhajans, kirtans and shabads. But it has become non-functional now. Maintenance is lacking and the elderly, who come here for recreation, find all this disturbing. Plants seek more care with dry leaves shed by the trees not being removed for days. A large number of people come here in the morning and evening. Residents say that the park is not well maintained. For the protection of the public and to restrict stray animals from entering the park, an iron grill has been installed at the walls of the park which is damaged but the MC prefers to look the other way.
