Take preventive action against troublemakers, says DIG Satinder Singh
The Punjab Police have geared up for the upcoming panchayat polls scheduled to be held on October 15. Senior police officials have been holding meetings to discuss various security concerns during the election.
The police have also initiated preventive action against the trouble makers who could foment law and order problems before or on the polling day. These include notorious criminals, history sheeters, drug peddlers and street peddlers.
DIG (Border) Satinder Singh on Saturday held a meeting with officials of Amritsar rural police at Daburji police lines area here. Yesterday, he had a meeting with Gurdaspur and Batala police authorities.
“We have asked the police officials to keep a close watch on the unscrupulous elements and take preventive action against them as per need. We are also launching a drive to nab proclaimed offenders who have been evading arrest for a long time now,” DIG said.
Special emphasis has also been given on the deposit of licensed weapons with the concerned police stations and gun houses.
“Though a large number of weapons were already deposited during the Lok Sabha polls, but those who have weapons with them have been asked to deposit the same,” he said.
Amritsar rural police have issued around 28,000 weapons against 26,000 arms licenses.
