New Delhi, August 27

In response to the severe waterlogging under the Dhaula Kuan flyover and surrounding areas on the Ring Road following the unexpected rainfall on August 23, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Atishi conducted an on-site inspection on Tuesday.

During the visit, she directed officials to implement both short-term and long-term measures to prevent future occurrences of waterlogging.

“The Dhaula Kuan area, including the surrounding roads, is among the most important routes of Delhi. It is imperative that we take every necessary step to prevent waterlogging here,” Atishi said during her inspection.

She instructed officials to upgrade the existing drainage system to handle the capacity of 100 mm per hour, ensuring that the area could withstand heavy downpours without causing inconvenience to commuters.

PWD engineers accompanying the minister explained that the waterlogging issue on this stretch was exacerbated by the area’s bowl shape. “Due to the slope on this stretch, water from the adjoining roads was collected here after the incessant rain on August 23. This resulted in delayed drainage,” officials said.

Atishi ordered immediate deployment of mobile pumps in sufficient numbers to increase the pumping capacity at Dhaula Kuan. “By enhancing the pumping capacity, we can ensure that water does not accumulate in the future, sparing commuters from the problems they faced recently,” she said.

“I have instructed the officials to take corrective measures promptly so that commuters do not have to face such problems again,” Atishi added.
