The Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University for Science and Technology (DCRUST) is in the limelight for the delay in BTech first-year classes by two weeks. Sources said the classes were to start on September 15.

In the notice issued by the Dean Academic Affair on September 29, it was stated that due to unavoidable circumstances, the first-year classes of BTech were being postponed and teaching would begin on October 1.

“To ensure that there is no teaching loss for students, Saturday (in total five Saturdays) will be declared working for all concerned who will be teaching/associated with the first-year BTech programme. The date would be informed later,” the notice reads.

General body members of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University Teachers’ Association (DCRUTA) held a meeting over the delay in BTech classes.

Dr Ajay Dabas, President, DCRUTA, said the classes of the first-year students were postponed for the third time.

“The university administration has circulated a first-semester scheme and timetable for BTech courses, which was a clear violation of the university Act. For this, the administration has also taken the signatures of chairpersons on some documents without sharing complete scheme and syllabus,” he alleged.

“The scheme was not even approved by the Board of Studies and Faculties in the university and no codal formalities were completed, which are essential for any revision of scheme and syllabus,” the president added.

“The first-year students reached the university on Monday to attend classes but they went back as they had no syllabus or timetable in hand,” he said.

Dr Dabas further said that it was decided in the meeting to continue the already approved existing scheme for the current session 2024-25 for the interest of the students. No department will accept the circulated scheme and timetable by the administration,” he said.

“We asked the university administration to withdraw the circulated scheme and timetable by tomorrow 10 am, failing which DCRUTA would hold a protest in the interest of students and the university,” the president said.
