A three-year-old child was killed due to the collapse of a swing in a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) park in Ward 89, Karampura, on Monday.

Family members of the victim said the swing lacked a bolt, causing it to fall and strike the child’s chest.

BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj expressed her deep sorrow over the incident, attributing the tragedy to negligence in maintaining the parks managed by the MCD. “This heartbreaking incident highlights the gross neglect of park maintenance by the MC,” Swaraj stated. “I have been informed that a similar swing collapse occurred in the same area last year, which underscores a pattern of inattention to public safety.”

Meanwhile, in response to the tragedy, Swaraj has called for an immediate safety audit of all swings and fitness machines in municipal parks, emphasising the need for better maintenance of public spaces. “We cannot allow such tragedies to occur again. A thorough safety audit is essential to ensure the safety of children and families using these facilities,” she asserted.
