Swearing-in of new Cabinet likely on Oct 15 in Panchkula
For the second time in a decade, Panchkula will host a high-profile swearing-in ceremony of the BJP government in Haryana, which is likely to take place on October 15. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states are expected to attend the event.
According to party sources, the ceremony will follow a BJP legislature party meeting on October 14, during which Nayab Singh Saini, the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate for the 2024 Haryana Assembly polls, is likely to be chosen as the leader of the legislature party.
This will be the second time that Panchkula’s Parade Ground will serve as the venue for the swearing-in ceremony. In 2014, the same location hosted the swearing-in of Manohar Lal Khattar, then a first-time MLA, who became Haryana’s first BJP Chief Minister after the party won 47 seats in the 90-member Assembly. Modi had also attended that ceremony.
Following the October 5 Assembly elections, the BJP secured 48 seats, becoming the first party in Haryana’s history to achieve a hat-trick of consecutive victories.
No confirmation from PMO
There is no official confirmation yet from the PMO about Modi’s schedule. While we are keen to hold the ceremony on October 15, it could be postponed by a day or two depending on the PM’s availability. —Senior BJP leader
Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad has already formed a committee led by the Panchkula DC to oversee the preparations for the swearing-in, scheduled for October 15. However, BJP sources indicated that while the party is eager to hold the ceremony on that date, there may be a delay of a day or two as confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) regarding Modi’s availability is still pending.
The Parade Ground has been chosen for its proximity to the Indradhanush Auditorium Complex, which offers ample and secured parking space for VVIPs. A nearby ground close to the Shalimar Mall is also being kept as a backup venue. Senior administrative and police officials, including ADGP Alok Mittal, visited the site today to review preparations.
