The woman Sub-Inspector (SI), who was suspended in November for being absent from duty by Home Minister Anil Vij during his visit to the city police station, has been reinstated by the police department after she gave the reason for her absence.
Sub-Inspector Nirmala personally appeared before the Home Minister last week. She told the minister that there was no separate toilet for women in the city police station and therefore she had to go to the residential complex behind the police station.
After hearing the reason, the Home Minister ordered immediate rollback of her suspension orders and the Police Department was asked to get a separate toilet for women at the city police station.
Vij had conducted a check at city police station while he was on his way to Delhi from Chandigarh on November 16. He ordered the suspension of Sub-Inspector Nirmala after she was found absent from duty.
DGP Manoj Yadava said most of the police stations across the state had separate toilets for women. “If some police stations don’t have this facility, I will get it checked and ensure that separate toilets for women are constructed everywhere,” the DGP added.
