The police claimed that the suspect, Sumit Kumar Bhaita, from whose farmhouse the weapon was recovered, was an accomplice of Vainkat Garg (22) of Ambala, , who was arrested for providing shelter, weapon and a car to the assailants involved in a firing at a liquor vend in Sector 9.

The police said Vainkat had revealed that Sumit, a resident of Sector 48, Chandigarh, was one of their accomplices and had a farmhouse in Zirakpur.

The police claimed that on a tip-off, they managed to recover the Audi car today. “Sumit is yet to be arrested,” the police claimed.

Sources said Sumit had been rounded up by the police and was not formally arrested.

DSP Central Krishan Kumar said they were yet to verify whether Sumit had any role in the Sector 9 firing.

According to the police, Sumit was earlier booked in a case under the Arms Act in 2014.

Cops have also recovered two mobile phones of Vainkat Garg.
