Panic gripped the Ajnala area after a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) was found in front of a police station here on Sunday.

Senior police officials immediately reached the spot and initiated investigation into the matter.

According to officials, the residents of the village found the IED and informed the police.

Amritsar rural SSP Charanjit Singh said it appeared to be an IED but it was yet to be confirmed.

A bomb disposal squad collected the suspected IED and sent it for further examination. Teams are scanning the CCTV cameras to get clues, added the SSP.
