With intent to instil confidence among residents and tighten noose around antisocial elements, the police organised flag marches, nakas, searches, and combing operations in all subdivisions of the district ahead of panchayat elections.

Malerkotla SSP Gagan Ajit Singh, SP (H) Swaranjit Kaur, Malerkotla DSP Kuldeep Singh, Amargarh DSP Davinder Singh Sandhu and Ahmedgarh DSP Rajan Sharma led the cops as they marched through highways and linked roads of rural areas in their respective segments.

SSP Singh said the security had been beefed up with intent to instil confidence among residents and demoralise antisocial elements, including drug peddlers, snatchers, eve teasers and other criminals.

He said office-bearers and activists of various outfits have been roped in to sensitise residents about the significance of community policing in maintaining peace and tranquillity in the region.

Singh said the police were committed to ensuring maximum voters reach their respective polling booths to exercise their right to vote without any coercion, allurement, or discrimination on the basis of caste or creed.

He said, “Having studied past records regarding problems related to Panchayati Raj Institute elections, including panchayat elections, we have draughted a foolproof strategy to instil confidence among residents and to scare away antisocial elements.” He said circle officers and beat in-charges had been advised to remain vigilant till the panchayat elections were concluded.

He said drug abuse had been identified as a breeding ground for all other crimes and social evils. He added officials have been advised to ensure contrabandwere not allowed to enter the region.

The SSP said experienced personnel had been deployed to monitor social media and cybercrime. He said people should remain vigilant when they watch or forward posts that contain hatred against any particular community or political organisation.
