Sunil Khanna elected Chandigarh Club president

Sunil Khanna (62) has been elected as the new president of the Chandigarh Club located in Sector 1 here. The voting took place yesterday and the results were declared today. The elections were conducted after a gap of eight years.

Anurag Aggarwal (54) has been elected as the vice-president. The new governing body will serve for a three-year term.

Industrialist Khanna defeated his nearest rival Naresh Chaudhary by a margin of 128 votes. Khanna secured 1,623 votes, while Chaudhary polled 1,495 votes. The third candidate, Ramneet Singh Chahal, managed to secure only 104 votes. Khanna is aligned with the group of outgoing president Sandeep Sahni.

Aggarwal received 1,129 votes for the post of vice-president, while his nearest rival Karan Vir Nanda got 1,110. The third candidate, Anurag Chopra, secured 973 votes.

Of the 7,441 eligible members, 3,292 had cast their votes. The outgoing council was elected in 2016, but subsequent elections were delayed owing to legal disputes and the Covid-19 pandemic.
