Sunil Jakhar’s ‘discomfort’ reflects ideological difference: Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal

Senior BJP leader and former Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) state president Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal has said that the BJP cadres had been urging the party high command to not induct leaders from the Congress and other political parties as they did not know “the ABC about the BJP’s ideology” and were joining BJP only to get clean chit for their previous corruption charges.

He said this while commenting upon the latest controversy about Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar, who is also a former PPCC president, who was purportedly “feeling suffocation” in the BJP.

Talking to this correspondent here today, Grewal said Jakhar’s growing discomfort within the BJP was an example of the ideological divide at play. He attributed this alleged discomfort to a person’s lack of alignment with the core values of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the RSS.

The BJP leader said, “It is a widely acknowledged reality —that is almost written on the wall — that many Congress leaders who joined the BJP to avoid scrutiny from agencies like the ED, CBI or Income Tax were likely to return to the Congress when the tide turns in their favour.”

He stressed that the inclusion of selfish politicians, who have zero knowledge about the ideology of the BJP and RSS, and consequent opportunistic defections could inflict considerable damage on the party’s future prospects.
