Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has sought support from the Central Government for the development of new and integrated tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh.

Sukhu, who called on Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi today, sought help under special Central assistance for various projects. The Chief Minister said that the detailed project reports (DPRs) of the proposed projects would be submitted to the Union Government shortly.

He sought the Centre’s assistance in setting up a wellness centre-cum-health resort at Dehra in Kangra district, integrated tourism complex at Auhar in Bilaspur, Chintpurni temple complex under the Prashad Scheme and golf courses across the state. “The state government is promoting water sports in a big way as the Pong Dam and the Bhakra Dam have an immense potential in this regard,” he added.

He said that Himachal was committed to promoting sustainable development and tourism in the state. “Emphasis is being laid on developing infrastructure and improving connectivity to facilitate high-end tourists. More heliports are being set up to connect all district headquarters, besides expanding the Kangra airport,” he added.

The Chief Minister said, "Himachal is working towards developing new tourist destinations for boosting tourism in the state. The Pong Dam reservoir has been selected as a tourist destination under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and as such the fund allocation must be expedited so that the work on the project can be started,” he urged Shekhawat.
