Sukhu: Rs 32 cr given to 8,883 construction workers in Himachal Pradesh

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today said that the state government had disbursed Rs 32.32 crore to beneficiaries through the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. He added, “The government has extended financial benefits to 8,883 beneficiaries registered with the board, ensuring their welfare through various schemes.”

The Chief Minister said that Rs 10.59 crore had been provided to 3,514 eligible workers as educational assistance for their children. Besides, Rs 12.97 crore had been disbursed as marriage aid to 2,543 workers while under the maternity and paternity benefits scheme, Rs 1.71 crore had been given to 537 workers, he added.

Sukhu said that a medical assistance of Rs 35.85 lakh had been extended to 248 eligible workers and Rs 85.13 lakh had been provided under the monthly pension scheme. “Financial aid to the tune of Rs 32.32 crore has been provided through these schemes. Moreover, the board gives Rs 51,000 as financial assistance to workers on the birth of daughters,” he added.

Sukhu said that any individual, who had worked for up to 90 days in private construction projects, under MGNREGA or in construction projects of the government or panchayats, was eligible for registration with the welfare board.

He said, “Once registered, the eligible workers can avail of benefits of a range of schemes. Till August this year, 10,182 new workers were registered in the state. The government is committed to addressing the concerns of the workers and ensuring that they receive the maximum benefits of the welfare schemes. At present, 13 welfare schemes are being implemented through the board, with a direct cash transfer facility,” he added.
