Submit list of volunteers for relief operations, Shimla DC tells NGOs

Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap has directed all NGOs to prepare a list of volunteers, who can ensure their participation in times of possible disasters, before July 12. He said after the list of volunteers is available, a training camp will also be organised by the end of July.

The directions were given during a district-level inter-agency group meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of the DC. During the meeting, Kashyap said the main objective of the committee was to reduce disaster risk by establishing effective coordination between government departments and non-government organisations. Besides, the committee aimed to promote the culture of working together by organising the emergency response mechanism.

Keeping in mind the possibility of disasters during the monsoon, all NGOs had an important contribution in relief work and it would be necessary to prepare a list of their volunteers to ensure the services could be availed at the time of disasters, he added.

The DC said due to the vast geographical conditions of Shimla, the volunteers would be required in large numbers.
