Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Brig BD Mishra (retd) held a review meeting with Departmental Secretaries to discuss the ongoing project works and upcoming projects of the respective departments.

At the outset, the L-G asked the Departmental Secretaries to carry out their duties with due diligence and study cases beforehand before submitting them to the L-G office for approval. He also highlighted the need to comply with the L-G’s directions as per the administrative requirement and the law.

Brig Mishra (retd) also stated that a committee must be constituted to look into matters of financial assistance in cases of accidents and natural calamities to provide timely assistance to locals. The L-G highlighted the need to provide accommodation and proper reception for officials posted to Ladakh.

He discussed various issues with the Departmental Secretaries/HODs, including the constitution of the Civil Services Board, the demand of students from Ladakh who are doing B.Ed courses from private colleges in J&K to establish an examination centre in Ladakh; the issue of apportionment of manpower with the government of UT J&K; the border issue between Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh; the procurement of MRI machine for District Hospital, Kargil; the visit of 50 students from Ladakh for a camp in Gujarat; the budget allocation for UT Ladakh by the Central government.

He also discussed the issue of the outsourced staff for various departments of Ladakh; the training of newly recruited police personnel at the training centre in J&K; the need to strengthen police system to stop theft incidents; the unfair recruitment practice adopted by National Institute of Sowa Rigpa; the rationalisation of boundaries of Changthang and Karakoram Wildlife Sanctuaries; the appointment of new Vice-Chancellor along with filling up vacant posts at University of Ladakh; the demand from job aspirants to introduce Geography subject in schools and colleges; the issue of retrospective recognition of students holding B.Ed and B.P.Ed degrees; the progress on establishing government engineering and medical colleges in Ladakh; the update on draft Recruitment Rules for gazetted posts, etc.
