Students showcase talent at zonal youth fest

A three-day 47th Zonal Youth Festival (Karnal Division) of Kurukshetra University began at SD (PG) College here, on Wednesday in which students of 71 colleges are participating. The students showcased their strength, talent and enthusiasm in various disciplines of cultural activities on the first day.

Professor Somnath Sachdeva, Vice Chancellor, Kurukshetra University along with his wife Mamta Sachdeva inaugurated the zonal youth festival. Professor AR Chaudhary, Dean student welfare, Vivek Chawla, director, youth and cultural affairs and Dr Jagdish Gupta, president, cultural council and Principal Arya College were present during the inaugural ceremony.

Sachdeva while addressing the students said the most important part of this festival was the youth. Artistes are requested to participate in the festival with full enthusiasm and confidence. The aim of participating in this festival should not only be to win but to improve oneself. The students will remember the three days’ experience throughout their lives.

Anoop Kumar, president, Shri SD Education Society along with Pramod Kumar Bansal president SD Senior Secondary School, Dinesh Goyal, College president, Satish Chandra, chairman, SDVM HUDA, Tulsi Singla and others welcomed the chief guest.

Dr Anupam Arora, Principal, SD College in the Zonal Youth Festival (Karnal Zone), said artistes of 71 colleges would showcase their talent in a total of 42 disciplines, for which five stages had been set up at the college.

The first day events comprised of Haryanvi loor dance, choreography, rituals, Sanskrit drama, group dance (general), Haryanvi Pop song, mime, classical dance (solo), folk song Haryanvi, folk song general, light vocal Indian, classical vocal solo, elocution, quiz, on-the-spot painting, poster making and mehndi competition in which more than 500 artistes showcased their talent, Dr Arora added.
