Students celebrate I-Day with zeal

With the Covid-19 pandemic looming large, schools & students went the digital way, letting their patriotic spirits soar high like never before. Taking the e-media route, they set an example that no kind of obstacle could stop them from paying tributes to their nation. From flag-making competition to poem recitation, let’s see how the young blood channelised their creativity.


1. St Joseph’s Sr Sec School, Chandigarh

The 74the Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour, however there was a slight twist added to the celebration. Owing to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, a virtual touch was given to the marking. As many as 200 students participated in different activities conducted online. Pupils of classes l and ll participated in flag-making competition (with pulses). These were shared in class groups. The school mail box was flooded with entries of poem recitation, slogan writing (to name a few); to mark respect for the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the motherland. Many students participated in fancy dress and dance competition by sending their videos and expressing their take on the true meaning of independence. Senior students made collage depicting freedom struggle. Winners of these competitions were also awarded cash prizes.

2. Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh

 With the nation celebrating its 74th Independence Day, the school left no stone unturned in involving its students and staff in various online activities. As many as 1,500 students and 80 teachers participated in the activities. They all gave speeches, recited poems, sang songs, showed PPTs and put up dance performances. Slogan writing and patriotic singing competitions were also conducted.

3. Ryan International School, Mohali

With schools shut due to the ongoing pandemic, the Independence Day celebrations were shifted to a virtual platform this year. This however, didn’t dampen the spirits of the students. With only handful of teachers present on the campus, including the Principal, they gathered on the prayer ground and hoisted the National Flag. This was followed by an influential speech by the Principal. The celebration commenced by seeking the blessings of the Almighty. Students made paintings, badges and posters on the occasion.


4. Gurukul Global School, Chandigarh

Marking the freedom and glory of the nation, the school proudly celebrated its 74th Independence Day. The students of classes III – V participated in virtual events like kite, badge and toran making. They actively participated in all the activities by keeping their spirits high and exhibiting enthusiastic attitude. Even the pandemic could not deter the spirit of patriotism. To make it more special, the students donned Tricolour dresses. Principal Nina Pandey and Head of the Junior Wing Herbinderjit Kaur Rai conveyed the importance of the day.


5. DPS, Chandigarh

The children of Class IV presented their virtual class show ‘Incredible India’ with zeal. They left no stone unturned to express their love for their motherland. The show was an amalgam of songs, poems and dances. Principal Reema Dewan graced the occasion and encouraged children to use this time of the pandemic to stay connected, safe and build stronger bonds. She congratulated the achievers for the excellent performance.


6. MJS Ramgarhia Public School, Chandigarh

Even though the Covid-19 pandemic has been a dampener for most events, the school didn’t let it bring down its patriotic spirit. The 74th Independence Day celebrations took the virtual route and allowed students to take part in online events, giving the celebrations a new twist. Sardar Jaswant Singh Bhullar, Chairman sir, Sr Gurbax Singh jandu,  Sardar Kulwant Singh Virk and Sardar Naryan Singh along with Principal Sudesh Kohli and a few staff members unfurled the National Flag followed by the National Anthem while strictly maintaining the social distancing norm. Students shared their patriotic spirit through online poetry recitation based on patriotic theme. Saplings of trees were also planted by students and teachers. Videos and pictures were sent online in each class group. An online address by the  Principal to the management members, parents, teachers and students was also uploaded in the class groups was a tribute to the valiant martyrs who laid their lives for the sake of the nation.


7. Shishu Niketan Public School, MDC Sec-5, Panchkula

Various online activities were conducted in order to celebrate the country’s Independence Day. Students actively participated in the activities by keeping their spirits high and exhibiting their patriotic attitude. A poem recitation activity was conducted for students of Nursery & KG; for Class I kids a, storytelling activity was held; solo dance for classes II to V; poster-making for classes VI to VIII and article writing and declamation for classes IX & X. All activities were patriotic theme-based. The highlight of the activities was the online debate on Constitution conducted by the students of classes IX & X. Principal Ranjna Bakshi was also present during the debate and appreciated the efforts of the students and the teachers.
