The Municipal Corporation of Dharamsala opened its first model vending zone at Temple Road, McLeodganj. Pending for a long time, street vendors had been eagerly waiting for the completion of the market comprising 21 permanent spaces constructed under the Smart City initiative.

The Diwali festival has become special for the beneficiaries of the project as their space was officially handed over to them. Talking to The Tribune, Devinder Jaggi, who is also state general secretary of the Congress, said, “These vending zones which are being created are likely to provide a permanent, durable and dignified space to the vendors who were neglected earlier. It would also add to the charm of the town with the vendors placed at a designated place.”

The establishment of the vending zone will provide local vendors a platform to conduct their business. This initiative will not only create new employment opportunities for local residents but also provide convenience to tourists visiting Dharamsala.
