Hisar, July 28
Apparently seeking credit for the victory of three out of five Lok Sabha seats bagged by the Congress in Haryana, Sirsa MP and former Union Minister Kumari Selja today thanked the people for ensuring win of Hisar MP Jai Prakash besides the party’s win in Sirsa and Ambala parliamentary constituencies.
Addressing the workers’ meeting in Barwala Assembly constituency in Hisar district on the second day of her Congress Sandesh Yatra today, Selja said, “We won five seats in Haryana out of 10 seats. Of these five seats won by the Congress, I am thankful to you that you helped win Jai Prakash from Hisar besides Sirsa and Ambala,” she said.
Selja’s statement is significant as by thanking people for victory in these three Lok Sabha constituencies, she was indirectly staking claim for the victory for herself. While she is a resident of Hisar, she was a candidate from Sirsa (reserved), she also went to campaign for the Congress candidate Varun Mulana in Ambala (reserved).
However, Selja gave a call to the Congress workers to stay united to overthrow the BJP. “Time for change has come. The people of the state have suffered a lot under the misrule of the BJP for the past 10 years,” she said.
The former Union minister said the state has become number one in unemployment. “When youth asked for jobs, they were beaten with sticks. When farmers and sarpanches made some demands before the BJP government, they were cane-charged. This has been going on for 10 years. Farmers are still sitting on the roads, but not a word has been said for them by the BJP,” she alleged.
She took a dig at Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for the fiasco in Fatehabad when he named six works approved by the previous Congress government, stating that nothing has been done in the name of development, and the BJP leaders are counting the works done by Congress.
Selja said the BJP has worked to divide society by playing caste politics. “We want everyone to walk together, and the one who is left behind should be heard first so that Haryana can progress,” she said adding that the BJP changed the CM, but this will not change anything because the BJP’s policies are anti-people. She also promised legal guarantee for the MSP, hike in the wages of labourers and more jobs for the youth.
