State government employees, under the banner of Purani Pension Prapti Front (PPPF), took out a protest march in town and presented a memorandum titled ‘Show-cause notice’ to the staff of Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal, Tarn Taran MLA. While the MLA was not in office, the employees demanded revival of the Old Pension Scheme.
Partap Singh Thathgarh, district president of the Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF), said the state government was not in a mood to implement the letter issued on November 18, 2022 promising to restore the Old Pension Scheme. The DTF leaders said that more than two and a half years had passed after the present state government had come to power in the state, but the GPF account numbers had not been allotted to the employees. The employees said that in case the state government did not implement the Old Pension Scheme, the employees would participate in a three-day dharna to be staged in Sangrur, the home town of the Chief Minister, on October 1 to stress for the revival of the Old Pension Scheme.
