Patiala, August 17

The State Election Commission is making necessary logistical arrangements for the upcoming General Elections to the gram panchayats across the state. Regarding the electoral roll to be used in these elections, the final publication of voters’ lists, with the qualifying date of January 1, 2023, was completed by all Deputy Commissioners on January 7.

Patiala Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Showkat Ahmad Parray shared details of the process, stating that the voter list was duly updated as of December 29, 2023. This update followed the receipt of claims and objections from the general public, which were addressed by the Electoral Registration Officers in the district.

To uphold the integrity of the electoral rolls and ensure that all eligible voters, who could not have their names entered earlier or who have recently become eligible, are given an opportunity to do so, the State Election Commissioner has directed the Electoral Registration Officers of Patiala to update the electoral roll for the elections. Applications in Forms I, II, and III can be submitted on any working day.

“A special campaign will also be held from August 20 to 23. Residents within the revenue estates of the gram panchayats concerned are informed that they may use Form I for adding their vote, Form II for objections or deletions, and Form III for correcting entry particulars, including changes in address or other details,” said Parray. — TNS
